21st Jul 08 7:42 | New Icon! :P

I was playing around in model viewer and discovered not only demon hunter rune tattoos(!) but that you can kinda/sorta combine hairstyles, so I played around and revamped priesty-girl (who is definitely getting a new hairstyle in the xpaq assuming they're even halfway decent). I wish she looked this cool in game. >_<

Here's the original. I think it looks better with more of her body showing, but this is sans photo editing.

Hot! It almost makes me not regret that she's not a Draenei (wtb Symbol of Hope), although she was made long before BC.

Incidentally, if the dual-braid hairstyle looked more like this I'd totally have an NE with it. I hate that pulled tight, cheap face lift look the braids have. Need softness around the face! Look! )

4th Jul 08 5:10 | D3

So, I finally watched the Diablo III cinematic and gameplay trailer. Absolute FAIL that half the focus was on the Barbarian, although I really shouldn't be surprised because as far as class balance was concerned in D2 it was blatantly obvious he was the favorite.

However, ZOMBIE WALL!

I was actually a little unimpressed with the cinematic that seemed to amaze everyone else. I mean, literally half of it was watching a candle being lit. Zzz. The other scenes flashed so quickly it was difficult to process what was happening other than the historic sword being thrown at the Worldstone by Tyrael.

However, DECKARD CAIN!

Other than that, I was surprised to see that aside from a few tweaks they really didn't alter the D2 game engine hardly at all. D2 was fun, don't get me wrong, but I was surprised that nearly a decade later it's still basically the same game with an added hotbar. Maybe that's good? The graphics look great, of course, but that's usually to be expected in any new game.

Diablo, man, if that's him at the end of the trailer he's had some work done. Some evolution I can see, but really, he just doesn't look himself anymore. I still think his D2 rendition was the best, although he did almost look cute, especially when he ran around on all fours. <3

Unfortunately, knowing how Blizzard works I don't expect D3 to be released for another 2 years. -_- I really need an anti-WoW.

Incidentally, FAIL that attendees at the Blizzcon Invitational in Europe received non-combat pet Tyraels. I want my own mini arch angel. :( I'm still lamenting the fact that I can't get the Diablo non-combat pet.

Oh, I also wish they'd addressed looting because from the looks of it it's the same as it was in D2, which means extremely flawed. Well, maybe I'll know enough people playing this time that I won't perpetually be running around with strangers. ;_;

1st May 08 9:45 | COLD

It is completely improper that it's in the 30-40 degree range in May. I should not still be wearing a heavy coat to work nor using a space heater. I'm beginning to think that NY doesn't have a spring season and at this point summer is questionable. Is 60+ degrees in May really that much to ask? I swear, sometimes I think I'm never going to be warm. It seems like I've been bitterly cold ever since I moved here 6 months ago. Prior to this experience I could not even fathom the winter season lasting this long in anywhere other than maybe Alaska or Antartica, it's ridiculous. I saw on the Weather Channel last night it's in the 80s in Florida, sigh. :(

24th Apr 08 1:10 | Okami Mini-Review Continued

Cut if you don't care or don't want future brushstrokes spoiled. :P )
Overall, I wouldn't advise not getting the game based on the controls. They were a bit awkward at first because I was not only used to the PS2 version, but I was drawing things differently than shown in the Brush Techniques Guide (Wii's just a little more anal about that than the PS2, I guess). I've only really had trouble with the one aforementioned stroke that isn't even used very often.

Besides, everyone needs to buy a copy so they'll be more inclined to do a sequel. :P

19th Apr 08 5:30 | Mini-Recant on Circles

Well, I have to recant some of what I said in my mini-review. I'd forgotten that Okami uses somewhat different stroke methods for certain symbols, i.e. the circle for Bloom begins at the bottom, not the top. Since I've been doing that I've had much more success, certainly more than 50%.

So, let that be a lesson, always consult the brush technique guide because a circle isn't necessarily just a circle, it's a specially drawn circle. :P

18th Apr 08 9:25 | Wii Okami Mini-Review I

Cut for the disinterested. )

Initial Summary: It's impossible for Okami itself to suck because it's Okami. :P Mostly I just think that as much as people thought the Wiimote would be perfect for the brushstrokes aspect of the game (which isn't turning out to be the case given the lack of lieniency) that the rest of the controller's setup isn't particularly hand (or wrist) friendly. Granted, Okami was designed for the PS2 and the Wii is a port, so it's somewhat to be expected that the game works better with the PS2 controller rather than the Wiimote.

I still plan to finish the game completely of course, because content wise it's the Best Game EVER, but I think when it comes to my next replay I may opt for the PS2 version. We'll see. I'm only into Shinshu Fields at the moment, so maybe after some more practice it gets better. The REAL test will be how long it takes to accurately reproduce the god symbol, but that's a bit off in the distance. :P

17th Apr 08 11:20

I swear, I think my hair has quit growing. Okay, maybe not quit, but it's not growing as fast or as long.

I had what I consider a severe haircut well over a year ago. I basically went from having hair a couple inches below my waist to barely mid-back. This is what happens when people with long hair ask scissor-happy stylists to take off "a couple inches". >_>

Regardless, in all that time my hair's only grown back down to a few inches above my waist. It should have been back below my waist a long time ago, but it just doesn't seem to want to get there. I had another haircut a couple months ago because my 'bangs' (such as they are) had grown from the tip of my nose down to my neck, so obviously it's growing, but the overall length isn't going past a certain mark. Even since the trim, which took care of whatever split ends would have existed, it just doesn't seem like it's getting any longer.

Problem is, because my hair naturally curly* I have to pull it straight to even get that length. Laying on it's own, in curls, it looks mid-back, which is why I tend to grow it longer. I just really miss the days when it actually covered my breasts and made me look like a mermaid. :( :P It doesn't cover enough anymore to prohibit indecent exposure. ;p

* Side note trivia! Apparently the hair shafts for naturally curly hair are flat like ribbons, hence curling. Courtesy of CSI. :P

---

Totally unrelated, I bought Okami yesterday. I got 2 hours into it only for the batteries in the Wiimote to die. It put me into the game settings screen for some reason and when I thought I was selecting to go back to the game I ended up selecting to go back to the title screen. Two hours completely gone. :( I really didn't think it was necessary to save yet because I hadn't really done anything, it was mostly story progression.

I guess it's not that big a deal since the Wii version lets you skip over all the cutscenes, but I just don't have enough free time these days to be wasting 2 hours like that. I was just getting to the good parts too. D:

That reminds me, I need to upload my Tobi icon. ♥

3rd Jan 08 9:45

I've been toying with icons in Photoshop, which I swear is about 100x more difficult to learn on the fly than Paintshop Pro. Unfortunately, despite having bought Paintshop Pro I cannot install it because my disc drive seemingly doesn't want to read it for some unknown reason. *sigh* At any rate, I'm fumbling around Photoshop 6. I have no idea what I'm doing, but so far it seems like you have to take 10 extra steps to do everything you could do in one with Paintshop.

It's the little things that frustrate me. I can't figure out how to size basically anything. Paintbrushes, crop tool, you name it. I can't figure out how to draw a straight black line, as ridiculous as that sounds. I couldn't find a line tool and even with anti-alias turned off using the paintbrush STILL feathers. I'm very much a numbers and pixel worker and so far I'm just running blind. It's driving me crazy. >_<

Regardless, in my ignorance and subsequent limited tools I still managed to create some nifty looking WoW icons, or at least I like them. :P

Ladea & Nemeus, respectively. Dalny's the posting icon.

It's making me wish I had Paintshop (so I'd have more control over what I'm doing) and all my old specialty brushes. I found a ton of great bases on art.com. Unfortunately, my disc drive won't read the discs I burned with all my old image/brush files. -_-

I'd like to make a few more and thought about posting on [info]wow_icons, but I'm afraid of getting too many requests. I don't mind making half a dozen or so more, but that's probably about the extent of my interest in doing it since I feel limited in how much I can manipulate any given image.

12th Nov 07 1:45 | Star Wars III

First, let me just say that after having seen Kenobi riding a varactyl that I want a warp stalker mount now. :P

Overall, I preferred 4-6 over 1-3. Part of the problem for me was the casting, especially of Anakin. Secondly, the writing in regards to Padme & Anakin's relationship was horrendous. Given the facts that I am 1) Female, 2) hyper emotional, 3) a hopeless romantic, and most of their "love" scenes had me rolling my eyes means that 1) writing failed, 2) acting failed, 3) directing failed. :P I haven't seen a coupling that bad since The Matrix series. Kenobi's, "You were my brother!" line was more of a tearjerker than the whole of Anakin/Padme's doomed relationship.

Secondly, I'm just going to pretend that the Hayden Christiansen Anakin didn't exist. >_> Seriously, I loved Darth Vader in 4-6, and to go back and see that he was really just an immature, tantrum throwing sissy boy that was "seduced" to the Dark Side about as easily as buying the school slut a beer before she jumps in bed with you was just insulting. Hell, the whole creation of Vader at the end was so Frankensteinian it was comical.

Incidentally, Christopher Lee and Samuel Jackson get all the cool roles (along with Ian McKellen). Oh, and it's kind of sad that General Grievious was actually cooler in Lego Star Wars than he was in the movie. >_>

11th Nov 07 8:20 | I hate the internet.

When's the last time you've been able to make negative commentary on anything without being called a whiner? When's the last time you've been able to express a strong, yet unpopular opinion without being referred to as "emo"? When's the last time you've been able to voice offense, morally or otherwise, to something and not been made to feel like there's something wrong with you?

I'm at my limit with it. Everyone's a hypocrite. You can't use racial slurs, you can't use the word "gay" in a negative manner, you have to be completely PC. However, you also can't be offended by basically anything short of what's legally defined as abuse either. You find [enter sexual reference here] offensive? Well, then you need to pull the stick out of your ass. You find that [whatever] goes against your religious beliefs? Well, God doesn't exist, your argument has no merit, end of discussion. You think that there are problems with [X]? Quit whining. You were bothered emotionally by anything? OMG EMO LOL! It's the internet, it's not real, it's just a game, it's just text on a screen by someone you'll never meet, etc. etc.

It's BS, all of it. The internet has always had the benefit of nearly complete anonymity, but added to it seems to be that you're never supposed to take anything seriously even when it's specifically directed at you by a particular individual or group of individuals. How exactly is that not personal?

Added onto this is you're not allowed to complain about anything, ever, period. Cry more, QQ, quit whining, etc. What ever happened to venting negativity being therapeutic? Hell, you can't even voice legitimate criticisms anymore. People will just tell you, "That's the way it is, suck it up or quit." Sometimes they'll even go as far as to take the opposing side of a ridiculous argument. "I like having bamboo shoots stuck beneath my fingernails, I don't know why you don't, there must be something fundamentally wrong with you!"

Is everyone on the internet a politically correct, amoral atheist, is that it? You're not allowed to be offended by anything because spirituality doesn't exist, morals don't exist, and modern day society preaches that you should be overly tolerant to the point of being a Stepford wife. This has somehow elevated quite a large number of people to feelings of superiority. How much fun it must be to completely invalidate someone's thoughts/feelings. Oh, and if you do have a point? STFU already.

10th Nov 07 2:55 | Florida Myths

There are a lot of bizarre misconceptions about Florida. Let me address a few I hear frequently. :P

Gators: Seriously, people, WTF? I cannot even tell you how many people approach me with the fact that you have to "worry" about alligators in Florida, as if they roam the streets (one woman even believed as much). During the two decades I lived there I can honestly say I never once saw an alligator in residential territory. Even the ones you hear on the news that manage to be found in people's private pools are rare and typically the result of living nearby alligator habitat. Speaking of which...

Swamps: Contrary to popular belief, the WHOLE of Florida is not a swamp. -_-

Bugs: Yes, Florida has bugs, and so do most states, believe it or not. Cockroaches are not indigenous to Florida. Fact of the matter is, under normal circumstances, if you keep a clean home and regular pest control odds are you won't ever see any. I don't know that much about the northeast (yet), but I can definitely speak from experience that the west has far, FAR more issues with bugs than Florida does.

It just amazes me that a lot of the people I encounter who've never been to the south, let alone Florida, seem to think it's just some insect infested swampland.

24th Oct 07 11:20 | Salt N Pepa

Anyone who knows me knows my guilty pleasures are reality shows. When I saw the advertisement for the Salt N Pepa show I was interested because I never knew why they seemed to suddenly disappear off the radar.

Well, it turns out Salt was having issues and needed to leave the business for her own well being. Pepa, unfortunately, ended up abandoned in the process and feels understandably bitter. Now, while I can sympathize with Salt needing to take a breather and focus on herself the end result is she's become a devout Christian, which in and of itself isn't bad except she's become the annoying type.

During one of the interactions between the two Salt refused to do some of their previous hits such as "Push It", "None of Your Business", or "Shoop". I had vague memories of the songs, but I didn't recall anything particularly bad about them so I looked up the videos on YouTube. The contrast of Salt between then and now is like night and day. It's hard to believe she was battling bulimia and the downsides of fame when she looked happy and like she was enjoying herself.

I'm glad that Salt is doing well for herself and content, but it still seems like the life was just drained right out of her. I will say that the Salt of previous years the public was exposed to was a lot more vibrant and fun. Now she practically dresses Amish, is extremely critical of Pepa for being "too sexy", and is just otherwise a drag. She's ashamed of her performance past and frequently refuses to do any more concerts unless many of the old songs have their lyrics re-written. Pepa ends up having to do far more compromising than she should have so that Salt is never in danger of leaving her faith comfort zone.

It seems the show has garnered a lot of popularity among Christians too, who admire and support Salt's change. I'm just disappointed that this perpetuates the belief that Christians are prudes. You can't dress sexy, you can't dance sexy, you can't sing sexy lyrics, you can't be proud of past accomplishments because they were too sexy. It's all just kind of ridiculous.

I feel bad for Pepa. She had her career ripped out from under her feet because the second half of her duo decided to quit and is shot down every time she tries to rekindle it. Salt tells her how to dress, how to sing, how to dance, what men she should be dating, etc. all according to her Christian fundamentals. There's no group without Salt, so Pepa isn't left with much of a choice but to comply as best she can without completely compromising her own personality.

All in all, I just think it's sad. It seems a shame that Salt couldn't address her problems without retreating into an overly moralistic cubby hole from which she'll not be moved. Some would argue it's maintaining her faith, but I'd argue it's excessive. I know I personally found the 'old' Salt to be much more approachable, but I suppose it's a good thing that similar Christian-types have someone else they can relate to on TV.

It wasn’t just dogs that Berdyaev cared about. In his autobiography, he describes the illness and death of his beloved cat, Muri. “I experienced Muri’s suffering before his death,” Berdyaev writes, “as the suffering of all creation. Through him I felt myself united to the whole of creation awaiting deliverance.... I very rarely weep, but when Muri died, I wept bitterly. And the death of such a charming one of God’s creatures was for me the experience of death in general. I demand for myself eternal life with Muri.”

Lunch. :P

I had a crazy dream last night. I dreamt I was with a couple of people, I don't remember who, in this old mansion/castle type house. Suddenly Yuna appeared, but she was a boss we were supposed to fight. We tried to beat her, but she was too tough so I told the others to run and that we weren't ready for a fight like that yet.

Next thing I know monsters start spawning EVERYWHERE, and I mean like Kingdom Hearts mob everywhere. We're trying to hack and slash our way through them, but there's too many and they're too tough. Then I notice there are these sparkly things on the ground, almost like clear wings, and they were supposed to be like the stuff the KH monsters drop, treasure, etc. So, I'm trying to grab what I can while running around and avoiding hits.

We had to go back into the room where Yuna was in order to exit the place, but now Yuna wasn't there, it was that angel in D2 that stands outside of the gates to the Chaos Sanctuary, Hadriel, or whatever his name is. So, now I'm thinking, oh great, random bosses spawn here and we're already overwhelmed by all these guards and other misc. monsters.

We finally made it back outside and I don't remember much of what happened after that.

I had a dream that Metallica had become the favorite band of [info]shirofan and [info]thejimi. They also kept making graphical renditions of the United States flag and sending them to one another and they'd discuss their latest creations along with their favorite Metallica songs on [info]bluemoonvillage.

Very odd.

7th Dec 02 5:25 | Dream: World Trade Center

Mandatory Dream Update:

I've put off writing this for several days due to laziness.

Well, in my dream I kept playing in the ruins of the World Trade Center. The buildings were still somewhat structurally in tact, they still stood a full 110 stories high, but they were very unstable. While the buildings still stood the explosions had caused everything inside to be unsound. Ceilings, walls and floors would collapse with a moment's notice at just the slightest bit of aggravation. Needlessto say, it wasn't very bright of me to be using them as my playground.

The upper floors, about floor 95 and above, were in the best shape. Amazingly, the elevator still ran between floors 95-110. There was still danger, but not nearly as much as on the lower floors, which were just chaos.

Not much happened for awhile other than some friends and I playing in the building, dodging falling debris, and being lectured about safety issues. One day I was in the building by myself and once I was inside the elevator on one of the upper floors the cables snapped. I freefalled about 100 stories in this elevator. The whole time I was trying to relax myself as much as possible so I'd take the least amount of damage while shielding my head with my arms.

The elevator finally crashed on the ground floor and the impact was enough to blow open the doors and shoot the car straight out into the lobby. I managed to sustain zero damage. The lobby itself was near pitch black partly because it was nighttime outside. You could barely see the silhouettes of the debris from the little bit of light that was coming into the building.

I crawled out of the elevator car and was immediately hit by chills. I froze and amongst the creaking of the wounded building I could hear faint voices and movement like a slow shuffling. I knew survivors were impossible, everyone had long been dead. The sounds I was hearing were like whispers and low groaning. It finally occurred to me that these were the lost souls of that tragedy. They were still trapped in the physical plane. It could be their lives were taken so quickly they didn't even know they were dead or perhaps were still bound here by other reasons, but whichever it was I knew I didn't want to run into these people. Tragic or not, these were spirits who couldn't comprehend their own existence and could be extremely dangerous.

Fortunately, these sounds were coming from deeper within the building and I was somewhat near the lobby exit. Unfortunately, the exit was completely blocked by debris. I didn't look back, doing so could be fatal, I just tried to find a way out of there. I finally found a pile of debris leading up to a window with an opening just large enough for me to get through. I climbed up and out safely, determined never to set foot in that building again, and that was the end of the dream.

This got me to thinking, though, if they rebuild the WTC on the same site I wonder if it would be haunted...
